What is shifting and changing in your life? Sometimes change is a surprise - both welcomed and unwelcomed. Sometimes change is planned. Either way, change is inevitable. Life keeps on unfolding whether we want it to or not.
About 15 years ago I had a health crisis that put my life on hold. It was a very surprising change that caused temporary vision loss to my left eye. What I didn't realize until much later was that this was exactly what I needed to pause and reevaluate my life, my career, and my priorities. At that time in my life, I don't think anything other than a physical challenge would have convinced me to slow down and take care of myself.
The cool thing is...it's 15 years later and I'm still taking care of myself even though the health crisis is long over!
It also launched me on a personal and spiritual journey that rearranged everything for me. I went back to school (multiple times!) and changed careers (twice!) From this vantage point, I can see how every step on my path prepared me for the work I'm now doing. Every job, every program I took, and every challenge I went through cultivated the skills and tools I needed to be the speaker, teacher, writer and spiritual leader I am today. In short, I'm so grateful for the health crisis that started it all. Oh, and my vision (with glasses) is just fine!
Through it all, I developed a new way of being and moving through the world. I learned how to be present and stay with myself even in upsetting experiences. I began to make decisions with intention and thoughtfulness. I started showing up differently and healing relationships. I even found the courage to write, teach, create, and try new things.
After awhile I started to see a pattern emerge with specific steps to take that not only helped me process the change that was happening, but also empowered me to be a proactive change agent in my own life and journey.
Today I'm so excited to be teaching the same skills and tools that I've been using and refining for 15 years. These are quite literally the things I do in my personal life. The things I turn to when life gets hard and when I need to be reminded of my own creative power.
