Mindful Language Workshop:
Identifying Racial Microaggressions
Sunday, Jun 28, 2020 | 12:00pm - 1:30pm
Is your heart cracked open by the recent spotlight on racial injustice? Are you wondering what you can do to help? One place to start is to learn about racial microaggressions. Essentially these are things that well-intentioned white folks do or say to black, indigenous, or people of color that are often meant as compliments or innocent questions but land as insults, slights, or put downs. In this workshop you will learn to:
Identify racial microaggressions
What to do and say if you receive uncomfortable feedback about your language or interactions with black, indigenous, or people of color
Practice compassion with yourself and others
Dr. Derald Wing Sue says, “Many well-intentioned white [people] consciously believe in and profess equality, but unconsciously act in a racist manner, particularly in ambiguous situations.” So let’s come together in our spiritual community and raise our consciousness around our language.
