This quotation and the remainder of it dealing specifically with how to discipline the mind comes from a free eBook called Modern Buddhism Volume 1. As I read it I kept asking myself, “where have I heard this before?”

This is an idea that is central the work in Spiritual Psychology, specifically as it is presented in Loyalty to Your Soul, the book for the course of the same name starting January 19th.

This idea is also foundational to Religious Science and New Thought in general. If you are following us on Twitter you would have seen a quote from William James, the noted American psychologist and philosopher that I tweeted over the holidays where he says in about 1880, “Each of us literally chooses, by his way of attending to things, what sort of universe he shall appear to himself to inhabit.” Ernest Holmes was to affirm approximately 50 years later, “We see abundance in the Universe. We cannot count the grains of sand on a single beach, and the very air itself is vibrant with power. Why then are people, weak, poor and afraid? The Science of Mind deals with this question.”
